HOW IT STARTED

Pragmatic Coffee and Tea was officially founded in 2019, but our story goes back a few years earlier. In 2017, Brant Curtis was told about a guy brewing cold brew for some notable specialty coffee clients from a semi-truck trailer in San Pedro, California. Prompted by his brother Patrick, Brant reluctantly agreed to visit this guy in his unorthodox brewery. Within 10 minutes of chatting with the mad scientist behind the operation, Trey Malone, Brant Curtis knew they would shake up the coffee industry.

At the time, Trey was looking for venture capital to fund his novel approach to extracting coffee. His idea was to build breweries nationwide to be the leader in coffee brewing co-packing. There was just one problem: Brant and Patrick Curtis were less interested in VC funding and more interested in developing equipment at their family business, the Wilbur Curtis Company (WCC).

Out of these initial conversations, a lasting partnership and friendship was born. Trey was hired as a consultant by WCC to design and engineer a machine that took his groundbreaking approach to coffee extraction and made it accessible to any business looking for cold brew coffee. Over the next two years, Trey and the Curtis brothers developed a new brewing method (and the necessary equipment) that revolutionized their ability to provide the highest quality coffee extract at the most efficient rates in the industry.

Shortly before the brewer was set to be unveiled, the family sold the Wilbur Curtis Company. The Curtis brothers knew what to do next: Go out on their own. With Trey joining them in their new venture, Pragmatic Coffee & Tea was born.

Today, Pragmatic is the industry leader in product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and packaging options. It also offers one of the highest naturally concentrated products on the market. 

OUR FOCUS

We created a coffee extract that is simple enough for anyone to enjoy. How simple is it? You only need to add milk or water. That's it. That's the whole process. We promise it will taste as good as our expertise suggests. We didn't build a state-of-the-art facility to showcase a product that isn't of the highest quality. 

At our core, we believe that coffee and tea aren't merely beverages—they're an experience. That's why we're passionate about sharing our love and knowledge of extraction with you.
